About Sabae
Sabae city is a town of about 70,000 people.
The three major local industries are eyewear, fiber and lacquer. Sabae city is also becoming known for new IT technology, such a open data.
Manufacturing
This industrial city takes pride in being the biggest producer of eyewear in Japan; 80% of the Echizen lacquer market, and finally fiber, or otherwise know as the “fiber kingdom” in the Fukuy region.
Museum of glasses
The eyewear industry in Sabae occupies 95% of the national market share of eyeglass frames and has a history of more than 100 years.
The Eye Glass Museum is the symbol of “Glasses town” in Sabae. The large, red building looks like a pair of eyewear glasses when viewed directly above. Inside, one can find eyeglass shops, museums, and a eyeglass workshop experience.
